Derek Michael Hong

Derek Michael Hong is the Wealth Manager at Gorilla Investments Co. In this role, he is responsible for creating and maintaining personalized investment strategies utilizing a broad range of wealth management services. This includes assisting clients with establishing goals and objectives, working towards developing an appropriate overall strategy, formulating and implementing poten­tial solutions, and conducting periodic reviews to help clients monitor progress toward reaching the initial goals and strategies set forth. In addition, he supports clients in navigating through changing market environments to provide traditional guidance in the areas of asset allocation, tax-minimization strategies, retirement, and multi-generational strategies from risk-based strategies to banking and lending needs.

Prior to joining Gorilla Investments, Derek was a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Bank of America Private Bank.  Derek was formally a portfolio manager for the Allstate Investments company in Chicago, as well as serving as a mutual fund manager with the Transamerica mutual fund organization, and as a director and senior portfolio manager with Sovereign Wealth Funds in Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. During his career, Derek has served as a portfolio manager for Japanese, Canadian, U.S., and Emerging and Frontier market investments.

Derek is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and earned his B.S. from the United States Air Force Academy (Dean's list, Commandant's list, Superintendent's list distinction). He also holds an MBA from Stanford University. Derek is a former decorated military officer in the United States Air Force (awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, twice awarded the Air Force Commen­dation medal), and left the service at the rank of Captain. He has also served as a finance and investment instructor at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
